Musings on Having a Daily Routine

We all have things we do everyday as habit. We wake up at a certain time, shower at a certain time, eat at a certain time and so on. When we cluster groups of things together and continue to do them for extended periods of time, we develop a routine.

For me, my routine came into place naturally and unconsciously. Organically, all the things of my day assembled themselves into a routine that has made me more productive and efficient.

During today’s morning walk, I became aware of this routine. It just kind of cut itself into my awareness as I was mulling potential story ideas. This sudden discovery has prompted me to write about it.

Note: I did not consciously aim for a routine, nor did I sit up one evening and write out a schedule. It just came together naturally. Also, I sometimes don’t follow it all. I listen to my body and what my intuition tells me, which is most of the time as follows:

  • 9 am – wake up, sometimes earlier, rarely later.
  • 10 am – stretching and headed to daily walk.
  • 11 am – recording of daily talk for YouTube.
  • 12 pm – back home for shower and workout if so inclined.
  • 2 pm – free writing, editing and working on stories
  • 5 pm – first and usually only meal of the day. I am currently on an intermittent fasting program.
  • 6 pm – 12 am – this part of the day is much less structured but mostly consists of writing, reading, television, gaming and whatever may catch my fancy.

Without actually trying, I have developed a daily routine that has helped me be more productive and efficient. I incorporate what my mind and body tells me, keeping the routine fluid and interchangeable. I now have a template to refer to help me stay focused. Pay close attention to your daily activity and I’m sure you’ll discover a guiding force as well.
